The WSSCA Newsletter, The Starter Barks, has been named as the BEST CLUB PUBLICATION (Newsletter) for 2006 by the Dog Writers Association of America. Nominees were announced several months ago and the winners were announced at a banquet on 10 February 2007 in New York.

While the newsletter editor, Merrielle Turnbull, states the Club newsletter is a team effort and wants to thank everyone who has contributed over the years and for all the suggestions, it is never-the-less Merrielle who puts the newsletter together, publishes and mails the newsletter and makes it into an award winning publication.
