General Early Club History
The Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of America was founded in 1961 with 21 members; of those, 15 were from New Jersey and New York area, 4 were from the Pennsylvania area and 2 were from California. As of July 2018 WSSCA membership has grown to over 280 with members from the US, Canada and the UK. Several founding members are still with the club.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of America's first AKC Sanctioned Match for Welsh Springers was held in 1964 at the Randhaven Kennels.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of America's first Supported Entry in 1979 brought forty-two Welsh Springers for judging while the first National Specialty in 1980 saw an entry of sixty-four.
In 1983 the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of America held its first two sanctioned Hunt Tests.
Today, local Welsh Springer Spaniel Clubs, sanctioned by the AKC and fully supported by the WSSCA, hold many activities to help further the interest of their many members. Current activities include, but are not limited to, holding sanctioned matches, supported entries, regional entries, hunt tests, obedience trials, and supporting agility and tracking events.
